- GIS Data Compilation - provision of a folder structure designed to manage GIS data in a robust and logical way. The SADM system stores data by data type, not application, to make data easy for geoscientists to find and use the GIS data. The SADM system is designed to operate from a geological perspective. SADM encourages storage of as much data as possible in a database rather than proprietary GIS formats and then using tools in GIS packages to access the data, thereby minimising the requirement to keep data in many different formats
- GIS Metadata Compilation - provision of a robust metadata cataloguing system to record relevant data about the data. Metadata recorded includes:

- projection
- scale
- currency
- positional & content accuracy
